Juniors and teens are able to join our Friday evening practice, older teens may also attend our Tuesday evening classes after seeking approval.
As one of the core principles of Jujutsu is to not oppose strength, it is an ideal martial art for those of small stature who may need to protect themselves against bigger or stronger attackers.
There are many benefits that can be attributed to martial arts training. Beyond the physical benefits and self defence ability, confidence, concentration, etiquette, can all be enhanced through practice.
Anyone attending classes however is expected to concentrate and conduct themselves correctly and safely.
In the initial stages of training we operate a different syllabus for Junior members. We have found that this approach enables them to progress faster when they begin.
Something to understand about Koryu or Traditional Martial Arts, is that they were designed for real fighting, designed to kill, designed to allow a practitioner to deal with someone who is trying to kill them. Many of the principles surrounding this are too much for younger members to grasp, or potentially inappropriate to teach them.
Instead we focus at this stage on movement, body mechanics, basic technique and confidence.
As with our regular adult training, we do not focus on competition or flashy movements. Our students concentrate on personal development within the system, and real life skills.
